It’s the dream shared by couples across the globe — the true miracle to have a child. Unfortunately, a woman’s fertility hinders on egg quality. As women age — the chance of conception significantly decreases. Egg freezing in San Diego can help preserve future fertility and family-building options. Age is the most critical factor affecting fertility for women with female reproductive organs. In women ages 30 to 35, there is a progressive decline in becoming pregnant. After age 40, there is a major decline in conception and increased complications — making it difficult for a person to conceive.

As part of the decision-making process, you may choose to freeze your eggs in San Diego for the following reasons:
Pregnancy is very tough on your body — so it’s optimal to achieve pregnancy while you’re still relatively young and overall healthy. While the recommended age increases due to preventive care, improved medical technology, and treatment techniques, age is still a significant factor for egg freezing in San Diego.
On average, the most optimal circumstances to freeze is in your early to mid-30s, while your fertility is still near its peak.
By your mid-30s, this decline hastens to reach minimal pregnancy potential. In addition, women in their late 30s and early 40s have an amplified risk of age-dependent changes in egg quality, sometimes resulting in miscarriage and/or genetic abnormalities in their children.
There are many conditions other than age that can affect the quantity and quality of your eggs.
These may include:
When you choose to freeze your eggs, you will go through a process like IVF, in which ovarian stimulation medications are used to maximize the number of eggs that are retrieved and frozen to use later. The number of eggs to be frozen depends on three primary factors.
At FSMG, we encourage you to freeze at least 10-15 eggs per planned pregnancy attempt. But these are very general numbers, and the recommendation will change with increasing age.
During the egg freezing process in San Diego, the patient will take an ovulation-inducing medication for 10 to 12 days to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs for retrieval. During this time, we monitor blood levels and perform ultrasound monitoring to ensure the appropriate response to the medication is occurring. The mature eggs are then retrieved, with the woman or transgender man under mild anesthesia. This is an outpatient procedure, which usually lasts 30 minutes.
Eggs are then flash-frozen through a process known as vitrification. When the individual is ready to begin the next part of fertility treatment, the frozen egg(s) are thawed by an embryologist and, typically, fertilized through an IVF technique known as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). This process optimizes the chances of fertilization as it injects a single sperm directly into the cytoplasm of the egg, where fertilization occurs.
The fertilized egg, or embryo, is then transferred into the patient’s uterus.
